Introduction

Assistant Vice President, Shanghai

Based in Shanghai, this position is responsible for sales and marketing of SGX products (Securities & Bonds) across China with focus on both buy side firms, as well as sell side firms. The primary purpose of the role is to promote secondary market activity in the securities (equity cash) and Bond markets by way of direct institutional client engagement. The secondary purpose of the role is to assist in the promotion of primary equity and bond listing activity out of the region into the SGX. The individual is required to identify appropriate client strategies, and execute sales campaigns and targeted trader and client acquisitions. The position reports to the General Manager in Shanghai.


Position Deliverables

Meet new institutional clients sales targets and milestone objectives.

Maintain and build relationships with target local institutional and high net worth (HNW) investors as well as connect to relevant intermediaries across China.

Maintain and build relationships with relevant industry associations and associated professionals (lawyers,  regulators, exchange officials, etc.).

Promote knowledge amongst the local institutional and HNW investors on attraction of SGX platform and our companies/products.

Prospect, onboard and train (dealer and buy-side) participants in the usage of SGX’s OTC bond trading platform.

Identify and secure proprietary buy-side participants for both SGX Market Making as well as SGX Liquidity Provider programs for the Securities market.

Keep head office apprised of developments in the region including regulation/industry trends, threats and opportunities and provide ideas to deal with these phenomena .

Identify and execute marketing and educational initiatives to educate and attract clients to participate in the SGX product set (Securities and Bond Trading/Listing).

Generate regular educational and marketing messages to promote the SGX product set (Securities and Bond Trading/Listing) and work with colleagues in HQ to disseminate such messages to institutional clients and members in the stated region.

Develop internal relationships and interface effectively to solve client issues and steer product offering to  meet industry demand.

Represent SGX professionally – both directly with clients in industry events. This will include identifying suitable events and forums at which to represent SGX in a speaking role capacity.

Make use of internal sales tools and processes to ensure alignment of corporate sales objectives and assist in maintenance and development of client depositories and MIS.

Conduct sales and marketing activities in accordance with internal policies, as well as rules and regulations.


Job Requirements

Good finance related university degree.

Minimum of 10 years of sales experience in equity, bonds and related products including those listed in markets outside of China.

Proven success in marketing of financial products or services

Motivated, good strategic thinking, and planning & implementation skills

Possess good personal network with and insights of senior decision makers at major  institutional and HNW investors in China.

Fluent in Mandarin and English with good communication skills both in one-to-one or in a group situation.

Ability to put across key attractions of an investment destination and particular companies/product, and in the case of an IPO, gaining insights into investors’ interest to increase the chance of success for SGX’s IPOs.

A good team player with proven ability to work with colleagues in China and overseas.

Culturally sensitive and versatile with good Emotional Quotient and cross cultural disposition.

Strong influencing skills, persuasive and good in negotiations, logical in reasoning.

Knowledge of both listed and OTC markets will be beneficial.
